Memorial website in the memory of your loved one
Semper Fi, Marine.

You are relieved.

We'll take it from here.

This memorial website was created in the memory of Richard O. Quill III who was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 27, 1984. He graduated from Roswell High School in 2003. Richey passed away on February 01, 2007 at the age of 22 while serving his second tour in Iraq. We will remember him forever.

Songs
The song playing in the background is "March On" by Krissa Quill, Richey's sister. Krissa wrote this song for him the first time he was deployed to Iraq. This song and "Like I Don't Still Miss You So" were played at Richey's Memorial and Funeral. "Like I Don't Still Miss You So" was written in memory of their mother who died of breast cancer when Richey was twelve. This song will now be sung as a tribute to Richey as well.

Movies
Forrest Gump - The whole family loves to quote lines from Forrest Gump
"I've got to find Bubba!", "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get", "Stupid is as stupid does"
The Notebook - This movie was very special to Richey. "That will be us baby! It is only a matter of time."
A Few Good Men - Many people remember watching this movie with Richey

February 22, 2008 - The Memorial Bracelet
Krissa, her Dad and uncle went to NYC last week. They went to see Ground Zero. Across the street is St. Paul's church. For those who dont know, this church was saved from the debris of 9-11 by a huge sycamore tree in the churchyard. St. Paul's Chapel served as a place of rest and refuge for recovery workers at the WTC site. Today there are makeshift memorials to the rescue workers, firefighters and even to our soldiers in Iraq. While touring this chapel Krissa had an experience that she shared with us. She was looking at one of the memorials shown here.

She walked away from the memorial shown above and then had this thought "Wait, look at the people and pictures, look closer, look at the details". This thought struck her so strongly that she decided to go back. As soon as she did she noticed the bracelet shown in the picture below. Her first thought was "Oh neat we got one of those for Richey, oh wait! That is Richey's!" She and her dad and uncle stood there in awe and silence for quite a while.

The black cuff bracelet says "Corporal Richey Quill Marine 02/01/07 Dunwoody, GA". As far as we know there were just a few of these bracelets made. We have no idea how this one got here. If anyone knows who left this bracelet in the church we would love to know more about it. Please email Paula@RicheysAngels.com or leave the story on the Tributes page of this site.

February 1, 2008 - One Year
It seems inconceivable that an entire year has passed. It feels like yesterday and forever at the same time. I will never forget the sound of Kira's voice on the phone. I knew, I knew the minute she screamed "Mom"!

November 27, 2007 - Richey's 23rd Birthday
There are no words that can do justice to how much Richey is missed on this day...

Thanksgiving

Dear Richey,
As always you are missed daily but this Thanksgiving is especially sad. We will keep you and your family in our thoughts. When someone you love has crossed over all of the 'first withouts' are very hard. It is hard to think of things to be thankful for when you are sad but this year one thing i am truly thankful for is for you being a part of our family. You have touched all of us in different ways. You are an example to Brandon of how a man should live his life. You set the bar very high for Kelsey in terms of the kind of person she hopes to fall in love with someday. And of course you brought true love into Kira's life. I know you will forever be in her heart. Even after you left you have continued to bring amazing people and experiences into my life. In this life and the next you have been a force of goodness and love! On this Thanksgiving I am thankful to have known you and I am thankful that your mother is with you. It is hard to feel thankful but I am trying.

Love,
Paula, Loren, Kira, Brandon & Kelsey

We created a video slideshow of the 3-Day walk, click www.richeysangels.com to watch the video. (Be patient it takes a few minutes to load fully.)

Richey's mother, Gloria, died of breast cancer when Richey was twelve. Throughout his teen years Richey always supported breast cancer charities. He often bought pink ribbon items for Kira. As a way to honor both Richey and Gloria some of Richey's Friends and Family have created a team called Richey's Angels. We walked in The Breast Cancer 3-Day in Atlanta October 12-14, 2007. We raised almost $12,000 towards the fight against breast cancer.

10-07-07 - Richey's Angels 3-Day Cookout
We held a cookout in Roswell, Ga on October 7 to raise additional funds for the walk. We have gotten donations from Harry's Wholefoods, Publix, Atlanta Bread Company and lots of others to help us feed the crowd. The cookout was at Kira's parents' house.

There have been some candle postings in the last few days that have been removed for now. Would the poster please contact Paula@maddox.org to discuss the content. We are interested in what you have to say.

Thank you to all of you who have added pictures, tributes and candles... Richey's spirit will live on in all of us and our collective memories.

07-01-07 - A special thank you to Nathan Brindley for the pictures of Richey, Nathan and their friends! These pictures have been added in a new album. (Please see the Tributes page also)

Thank you Nathan for being there with Richey and for being his friend!

05-28-07 - Roswell Memorial Day Ceremony
Richey's Father Rick, surrounded by the family laid a wreath in memory of Richey at the Roswell Memorial Day Ceremony.

05-13-07 - Mother's Day - Kira used to downplay our Mother's Day events so that Richey would not feel any more sad than he already did about not having his mother with him. It is with great sadness that I recognize that Richey is with his mother this year. So on this very sad Mother's Day I want to say "Bless you Gloria! You did a wonderful job and you have three amazing children to show for it!"

05-05-07 -  Cinco de Mayo! Holidays and family gatherings are so hard! They mark time and events. Times you were here for in the past. Times we miss you so much!

04-01-07 - Two months have gone by since Richey's death. There are times when it still does not feel real. Moments when you think "when Richey gets back we will..." then you have to stop yourself because you realize you have let yourself slip back. It is in those moments that the heartbreak is the worst!

03-01-07 - It has been one month since Richey crossed over. He is with his mom now but we all miss him terribly!

02-17-07 - There were so many wonderful stories told at the Memorial in Atlanta. These stories made that night a true celebration and thanksgiving for all who knew Richey. I hope as time goes on we can all share more of those stories here. It seems that whenever two of more of us get together the stories just flow and there is so much laughter in those memories! Anyone who knew Richey knows that they have been truly blessed by having had Richey in their life. His feelings and intentions were always so genuine. Whatever he did, he did with every bit of his being. And trying to get a smile out of you was always his greatest pleasure! He had the biggest heart!

02-14-07 - On page four of the photo album there are new pictures of The Buchi Family, Cousins and Richey holding a Marine blanket. (Thank you for the new pictures!) If you want to know when new pictures, candles or tributes are added you can scroll down to the "Get Updated" section and add your email address.

The Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk - Atlanta - October 12-14 - We are putting together a group to do this walk in honor of Gloria and Richey. If anyone would like to join us or sponsor our group please email Paula at Paula@maddox.org. We are going to do practice walks in all the cities where Quills and Buchis live so even if you can't do the walk in October you can at least join us in one of our city walks.
